Important of Masks for Children during the Covid-19

Medical masks are surgical or procedure masks that are very flat or pleated as they are affixed to the head with straps. When children will wear a medical mask, then it will be better for prevention and limit spread of certain respiratory diseases. 

Moreover, it is important question that children wear a mask at home during COVID19? Any child who shows symptoms of COVID-19 should wear a mask. These children should be isolated, and medical advice should be sought.

 Family members and caregivers who should come within 1 meter of the sick child at home should also wear this surgical mask. The member in house having positive result of covid-19 should be isolated from everyone else if possible. However, it is necessary to wear the mask in house if any one show the symptoms of pandemic. 

It is necessary for Children to follow the same principles for wearing masks. It includes cleaning hands at least 20 seconds before putting on the mask. They should make sure to cover the nose, mouth and chin with mask.  They should be taught how to wear the mask properly. They should also store the mask in a bag or container, and not share the mask with others people.

Children facing health conditions like cystic fibrosis or cancer should wear a medical mask in consultation with doctors. A medical mask can provide protection to the person wearing the mask and prevents transmission to others. However, it is recommended for anyone who has underlying health conditions. 

WHO and UNICEF have advised that children should wear a mask under the same conditions as adults, especially when they cannot guarantee at least a 1-metre distance from others people and there is pervasive transmission in that area.

What type of mask should children wear during COVID19 pandemic?Children who are in general good health can wear a non-medical or fabric mask. This provides source control, meaning it keeps the virus from being transmitted to others if they are infected and are not aware that they are infected.

The adult who is providing the mask should ensure the fabric mask is the correct size and sufficiently covers the nose, mouth and chin of the child. Children with underlying health conditions such as cystic fibrosis, cancer or immunosuppression, should, in consultation with their medical providers, wear a medical mask.

A medical mask controls spreading of the virus and protection to the wearer, and is recommended for anyone who is at higher risk of getting seriously ill from COVID-19.
